Rocky Mountain Region Innovative Users Group 2015 meeting

Please feel free to invite coworkers and collegaues!

If you have a presentation on any aspect of Sierra, Encore, Polaris, or Millenium please let me know.

AGENDA:

SIERRA APIs IN “PIKA”, AN OPEN SOURCE DISCOVERY LAYER

Presenter: Jimmy Thomas, Executive Director, Marmot

Marmot implemented VuFind in 2010, when system integration with Millennium necessarily depended on screen-scraping. After upgrading to Sierra, Marmot implemented the first phase of Sierra APIs in 2014. We continue working with iii as a beta partner on the next phase of Sierra APIs. This session will include an overview of Pika functionality with descriptions of how Sierra APIs work to benefit users in the Marmot Library Network and, most recently, the Flatirons Library Consortium.

PRINT TEMPLATES IN A MULTI-TYPE CONSORTIUM

Presenter: Brandon Cole, User Services Manager, Marmot

In this program, we will discuss how a multi-type consortium handles spine labels using print templates in Sierra. We will show how to edit spine label print templates in the newest Jaspersoft editor (Jaspersoft Studio 5.6.2). How do you handle multiple libraries with different labels templates ranging from Demco to Gaylord? We will discuss the process of formatting the margins and assigning the correct data fields to get the labels preferred by each library.

SIERRA TIPS and TRICKS - FROM A MILE-HIGH CONSORTIUM

Presenter: Mary Katherine Katzer, Member Services Librarian, Marmot

After several months, or even a year, of using Sierra, most users have a solid understanding of the functionality that is used in routine and regular tasks. This program is designed to enlighten us all on ways to make better use of many functions within the software.  Based on the input of members of a multi-type consortium, we will share database maintenance tips as well as tricks in the arena of circulation.

 III UPDATE

Presenter: Rochelle Wordsworth, III, Senior Library Relations Manager

KEEP CALM AND LINK ON: BRINGING LIBRARIES TO LIFE ON THE WEB

Presenter: Rachel Fewell, Denver Public Library

Libraries and the Web are natural partners, but have yet to connect and share their power in a truly meaningful way. The Libhub Initiative aims to change that by engaging libraries to deliver the expert richness of content, context, and curation into formats that the Web can understand and share. Denver Public Library has been the pioneering institution in this initiative to translate MARC catalog data into BIBFRAME and publishing it on the Web. Learn about our partnerships, experiences, and success of the initiative, so far.

EZProxy IMPLEMENTATION IN SIERRA

Presenters: Joel Tonyan, Systems and User Experience Librarian, Stephanie Spratt, Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian, Mary Beth Chambers, Director of Cataloging and Metadata Services, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs

As a growing number of electronic resources are added to academic library collections, linking and authentication services become key to providing a secure and problem-free research experience for users. EZProxy implementation is one way to aid that experience. The speakers will discuss initial setup of EZProxy as it relates to the Sierra Integrated Library System as well as full implementation considerations such as database record maintenance, batch loading, testing and troubleshooting. Any library using Millennium or Sierra which plans to or has recently implemented EZProxy would benefit from this discussion. Library employees directly involved in ILS infrastructure, electronic resources management and electronic resources cataloging will be able to take the information and steps provided here back to their own libraries to apply to their EZProxy implementation.
